Hi Reader,

Let us know how this website is going.  Any good suggestions?

LCA had a meeting and  enlarged the Tax Implement Finance (TIF) distrtict of Lakeport.  There are wonderful plans in the offering from studies like Smart Growth and Laconia Master Plan for long-term growth which will surely perserve and enhance the community.  TIF will help us to share the tax revenues generated from any new growth.

Laconia/Lakeport/Weirs was one of only five communities in the United States chosen for  Smart Growth initiative.
The Laconia Smart Growth Report is on this website too http://www.epa.gov/dced/pdf/laconia.pdf   The Smart Growth report and the Laconia Master Plan and other important studies and planned projects for Laconia could work with citizen participation.  Anyone who participated in any of these studies knows what a great task was undertaken and how we, in Lakeport,  would love to live up to it.

Our Holiday Yard Sales and 50/50 raffle were successful.  Thank you for your support!  New funds will be used to repair the floor of the Lakeport Freighthouse.  Anyone care to help Bob, Jerry, Dick and others with these fix up tasks?

Santa visited the Lakeport Community greeting youngsters at the Lakeport Fire Department where LCA members passed out goody bags and took photographs.

Our guys purchased a 50' boxcar and if all goes well, it will be in place on the side track by the Lakeport Freighthouse come spring.  This would be the right time for volunteering help in restoring the railcar with in-kind service or materials or financial support. We welcome help doing this.  We welcome new members to the Lakeport Community Association and we invite you to share with us.

P.S .The New Hampshire advantage (no sales or income taxes) has another advantage ~ having the first Presidential Primary since 1952 when Ike, Estes, Adlai and others campaigned.  While we delighted at greeting all of the candidates at our doors, we are happy to retreat behind the door to watch The Patriots on the tube.

Hi Reader,

Things are looking good at the Lakeport Freighthouse.  Our guys have finished the wall paneling and are ready to retile the ceiling while the ladies are making it cozy in the office and preparing exhibits along the walls and free standing display cases.  It's beginning to look like a museum.

Our boxcar will be transported come spring with the help of the Hobo Railroad and we will need a crane to hoist it onto the side track.

We are already starting plans for our popular 2009 Lakeport Community Association calendar and request any reader to share any vintage photographs of the Lakeport area they wish with us.  Be sure to include a little background  information for photo captions. We aren't prepared for sales on this website yet but we have many years of Lakeport calendars available for purchase as well as current ones.  Contact Wanda Tibbetts at 603-514-5473 for more information.

It's been a brutal winter with many injuries from falling on snow and ice and roofs caving in.  Unfortunately, one of our friendly appraisers, Ken Barrett, had that just happen to his antique business. Barrett Auction Service (formerly Achber's Department Store)  in Tilton when the roof caved in February 18.  A benefit auction was held at the Leavitt Park Community Center on March 1 by Ken's friends.

We, of the Lakeport Community Association, regret the death of one of our members, Louise F. Harper, 83,  on March 6, 2008.  Louise worked for 50 years in the payroll department of Scott & Williams.  She was predeceased by brothers, Forrest, Donald and William Harper and sister, Arlene Neal.  She leaves a brother, Robert A. Harper.

We have broken the Lakeport record for snow this winter and it will only take a few more inches to break the state record.  All you snow bunnies missed some spectacular winter scenes.  If you want to stay in touch with Lakeport, pass on your messages, queries, opinions, greetings to us.

Four of our members were just appointed to the Laconia Heritage Commission where we will assist in inventories of historic buildings and advise on use, reuse or demolition of such buildings.

Four of our members also serve on the Laconia Historical & Museum Society Board of Directors.  Our next events will help to Celebrate Quebec 400. Pork Pie (Tourtiere) Cook-Off was held on April 12 in the Sacred Heart Parish Hall, Je t'aime Laconia exhibit in the Laconia Public Library begins in May and a Josee Vachon performance on Friday, September 5 in the Belknap Mill precede the opening of the Laconia Multiculturial Market Day on Saturday, September 6 in Rotary Park.  Fun for all and especially our French Canadian friends and families who settled in "Little Canada".

Thank you to all the wonderful donors for your support and funds for the seasonal decorations in Torrey Park!

LCA Antique Appraisal Day on Saturday, April 12, 10-2 was very successful. Many thanks to local appraisers  Greg Peverly and David Cross with offer their appraisls.

Our guys expect to move our latest purchase from Peter Dearness of New England Southern Railroad Co., a boxcar onto the sidetrack in May and will begin restoration on it.  They are looking for the service of two cranes and help restoring the boxcar. If this is of interest to you, Dear Reader, come on board and help.
